Overview

How thermal imagery helps a search

A thermal camera shows differences in heat from surfaces it can see. Where an animal is visible to the camera and stands out from its surroundings, that contrast may draw attention to something missed in an ordinary aerial view. Open ground and gaps in vegetation can offer useful opportunities to look.

We compare thermal imagery with regular aerial images to review possible animal sightings and identify nearby paths or buildings. Your pet’s size, appearance and a recent photo help us consider whether a sighting may be relevant. Thermal imagery alone cannot confirm that an animal is your pet.

Start with the most reliable sighting

The last confirmed sighting is the most useful starting point. Send the location, date and time, and say who saw the animal. Keep possible reports separate from confirmed sightings so the search request reflects what is actually known.

A location pin or a clear description is enough to begin. Include your pet’s size, coloring and identifying features, a current contact number, and the areas already checked. Have a recent photograph ready to share. If there are several relevant locations, mark them separately and explain why each matters.

Make the aerial search part of the local effort

A local contact helps connect the aerial view with conditions on the ground. They can explain access, identify familiar features and coordinate a response to a possible sighting. We discuss who will receive those updates and how the ground search will be coordinated before the flight. We also confirm access arrangements and any private-property permissions needed for the search.

We review the area, current conditions, flight requirements and availability, then discuss the proposed coverage and communication arrangements. Keep sharing any confirmed sighting updates while the request is being arranged so the plan remains relevant.

A possible heat pattern needs further confirmation. Other animals and warm objects can stand out too, so the thermal view, visual detail and local information need to be considered together.

Thermal pet search questions

Can thermal see through trees or inside a building?

No. It cannot see through solid cover. Dense foliage, roofs and other obstructions can hide an animal; gaps may provide a view. Warm surroundings and weather also affect useful contrast. A search cannot guarantee discovery or recovery, or prove a pet is absent.

How soon can a search happen?

Availability, access, weather and flight requirements need review for the location. Submitting a request does not confirm immediate attendance. We confirm timing and arrangements with you before a visit.

What should I send first?

Send the last confirmed sighting location and time, your pet’s description, areas already checked and a local contact. Label any unconfirmed reports clearly. A recent photograph can help during follow-up.

What if someone sees my pet somewhere else?

Share the new location, time and whether the sighting is confirmed. That information may change the most useful area to consider for coverage.
